Baby's Development at Week 14
Your baby now measures about 87mm — the size of a lemon. The neck is more defined, allowing the chin to lift off the chest. Fine, soft hair called lanugo covers the body to keep baby warm. The kidneys are producing urine, the liver is making bile, and the spleen has started producing red blood cells. Your baby can make facial expressions, squint, and even suck their thumb. All major organs have formed and will keep maturing from here.
Symptoms at Week 14
💡 Week 14 tip: Schedule your anatomy scan (usually between weeks 18–22) if you haven't yet
Your Body at Week 14
At week 14, your uterus is rising out of the pelvis toward the abdomen, which is why your bump is becoming more noticeable. Many women feel a real surge of energy this week as hormones stabilize. Your blood volume keeps increasing, which can cause a stuffy nose or the occasional nosebleed — both common and harmless. You may notice your hair and nails growing faster. As always, every pregnancy is different, so don't worry if your symptoms don't match the list exactly.
Week 14 Checklist
- Schedule your anatomy scan (usually between weeks 18–22) if you haven't yet
- Continue your prenatal vitamin with folic acid daily
- Start sleeping on your side — a pillow between the knees helps
- Book a dental checkup — gum health matters during pregnancy
- Stay hydrated: 8–10 glasses of water a day
- Enjoy gentle exercise like walking or prenatal yoga if your doctor approves
- Take a bump photo — the second trimester flies by!
